Last weekend was the 10th edition of the Alpaga Québec Spring Show. This annual event is always a fun gathering that brings together breeders and their alpacas from every corner of our province. It's a great opportunity to meet with fellow breeders and see what they have produced as well as have our own alpacas evaluated to see how our breeding program is coming along!
For this 10th edition of the AQ Spring Show, our show crew was composed of 10 of our best juveniles and yearlings. Most of our alpaca show crew competed in both the Halter show and Walking Fleece show.
In the Halter format, alpacas are judged based on both conformation (physical) traits as well as fleece (fiber) traits. Each alpaca competes against other alpacas of the same age, sex and colour and are ranked by the judge according to the sum of positive traits observed.

In the Walking Fleece format, alpacas are walked into a seperate show ring where a different judge only assesses fleece traits. Each fleece trait is then valued and written down on a scorecard. No evaluation is done on conformation traits in this judging format. In the Walking Fleece, females and males of the same age and colour compete together in the same class as opposed to being judged seperatly as they are in the Halter ring.
In the halter show, judged by Frauke Berman, we showed a total of 9 subjects ranging from light to grey. Our crew won 3 Colour Championship and added 3 more Reserve Colour Champions. Some of our biggest surprises certainly came in the Brown and the Light colour categories, which are typically not are specialty!
For the walking fleece show, judged by Kevin O'Leary, we presented almost the same exact crew and came out with 2 Colour Champions and 2 Reserve Champions! Our biggest surprise in this format turned out to be our juvenile Roan male, Purely Enchanted, that won the Reserve Champion ribbon, right behind the Supreme Male Champion of the 2025 AQ Spring Show, which turned out to be a roan male! Some though competition all around!

All in all, the weekend was a great success for our farm and our show crew and we are absolutely delighted with these results!
Congratulations to all the farms that participated, to all the volunteers that organized this event and it's a rendez-vous again next year!
